Winery Babylonstoren

The Winery Babylonstoren is located in front of the captivating Simonsberg Mountain between Stellenbosch and Paarl. The historic winery got its name after the Hill "Babelwhich is located right next to the winery. Babylonstoren is one of the oldest wineries in South Africa. Up to the Year 1692 the history of the estate goes back and many details on the wines recall the long tradition of Babylonstoren. The old architecture of the buildings has been largely preserved and very carefully added more modern. The wines today are produced in a State of Art Wine cellar produced.

Winemaker: Klaas Stoffberg


Klaas Stoffberg grew up among his family's vineyards, where his love of winemaking developed. Originally, Klaas was on track to study architecture, but his Interest in viticulture was simply too great. After completing his BAgric (Viticulture and Enology) at the University Stellenbosch, Klaas began working at Dellrust Wineries as an assistant winemaker.

As his passion grew, he moved on to Napa Valley in the USA, then to Bordeaux in France and to Rust en Vrede in South Africa. After five years with Ernie Els Wines, he decided to join the team of Babylonstoren to join.
