Beau Constantia Winery

The Winery Beau Constantia is situated on the hills of the mountain pass Constantia Nek, overlooking False Bay. The special feature of this location is the short distance to the sea, and thus the associated cooling of the vines by the fresh sea breeze. Due to the very high altitude of the vineyards, which are located 350 m above sea level on the Constantia mountain range, only 3-6 tons of wine per hectare are harvested by hand.

The very steep slopes of the vineyard enable the production of highly concentrated wines. This combination shapes the strong heritage character of Beau Constantia 's award-winning portfolio.

Winemaker: Megan van der Merwe

Megan van der Merwe is the youngest winemaker in the Constantia Valley. Besides the development of the wines, above anything, her heart beats for nature. For this reason, Megan believes that one should interfere as little as possible in the processes that take place from the vine to the wine. That is why Megan spends most of her time on site in the vineyards.

Megan van der Merwe began her career by studying viticulture and oenology at the university of Stellenbosch. Shortly after graduating in 2014, she started as an assistant Winemaker at Constantia Glen. There, she had her first contact with the wines of Beau Constantia. In the following years, she spent a lot of time chasing the sun around the world. In 2017, for example, she worked in Paso Robles in California and in 2018 in the Rhône Valley in the Chateauneuf du Pape region. Nevertheless, Megan travelled back to South Africa every year during the South African harvest so as not to miss the vintage at Constantia Glen.

As someone who loves to learn and grow, Megan was immediately ready to take over the reins at Beau Constantia. In 2019, her success story at Beau Constantia began with her first harvest of her own.

Tasting notes

The Karin Blanc de Noir from Winery Beau Constantia is an incredibly pale Rosé. The aromas of lemon and pear combine in a wonderful way, making it a Roséthat you can simply enjoy.

This Rosé from Beau Constantia presents a surprisingly creamy texture and tangy citrus acidity with a saline note. There is an undeniable minerality of oyster shells on the finish.

Rosé Wine

Rosé wine (short: Rosé) is made from red wine grapes and is therefore not a mixture of Red wine and White wine.

Since the pulp of red wine grapes is transparent, just like that of white wine grapes, the Rosé colour comes only from the red pigments in the skin of the red wine grapes. Unlike in red wine production, the skins are separated from the grape juice after just a few hours in rosé production.

As soon as the grape juice has taken on a slightly red colour, it is pressed and transferred to another tank. There it continues to ferment without the skins. It is then bottled as Rosé wine bottled.

What are the different Rosé production methods?

Generally there are four different Production methods for Rosé wine. These include the pressing method, saignée method, maceration method and blending method (which, however, is usually only used for Champagne).

Karin Blanc de Noir from the Beau Constantia winery is the best partner for freshly shucked oysters with a Tabasco granita and a generous squeeze of lemon.

Switzerland - Shipping to German border countries

A cheaper and similarly expensive alternative is to have the wine delivered to German border countries and do the customs clearance yourself. You will then get back the German VAT, have a free volume of 5 litres per person and pay 2 CHF customs duty for each additional litre.
We also deliver free of charge within Germany starting at 120€ purchase value. Furthermore you don't have to coordinate with the parcel service and make sure that someone present as soon as the delivery arrives.

If you don't have the option of having the goods delivered to friends in the border countries, we can deliver the wine to a UPS Access Point to the border near your home. You don't need to register, there are no additional costs and you can collect your wines at the Acess Point within a certain time frame.

There are also various providers of parcel shops where you can have your package picked up for a small fee, e.g. SWISS-PAKET - with branches in Waldshut-Tiengen, Laufenburg, Weil am Rhein, Jestetten & Rheinfelden or EURORETOUR - with branches in Waldshut-Tiengen, Laufenburg, Weil am Rhein & Konstanz.

On request we will send you an export receipt which you can have stamped at customs and send back to us. We will then refund you the German VAT minus a handling fee of 12,00€.

Please note the opening hours of the customs offices! The customs offices usually close on Saturday at 13:00 and are closed on Sunday! For more information about opening hours and customs clearance please visit
For the customs declaration you just have to pull over at the border. You can pay with your EC card and pass the customs queue comfortably.
The officials are friendly and you can also get competent information by phone.

Please note that this form of reimbursement involves costs and effort. Therefore, we always deduct 12,00 € from the VAT amount to be refunded for these expenses.

Taxes, duties and charges in the EU

All taxes, duties and charges for Germany, Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, Croatia, Luxembourg, Malta, Austria, Portugal, Romania, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Czech Republic, Hungary, Cyprus (Greek part only) are included in our prices.

The following countries levy an excise duty on wine (as of May 2020): Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands and Poland. Due to their transport within the EU internal market, postal items from countries of the European Union are regularly not handled by the customs administration. These items are therefore generally delivered directly to you without incurring import duties. This does not mean, however, that the goods are generally duty-free. Under certain conditions, postal items sent within the EU may also be checked. For this purpose, the customs authorities may have postal items opened and check whether they contain goods that are subject to excise duty or whether their import, transit or export violate legal prohibitions and restrictions. The secrecy of letters and mail is restricted in this respect. If they receive goods subject to excise duty, you are generally obliged to report this to the relevant customs office and, if necessary, to pay duties.

Due to legal regulations we only deliver to persons over 18 years of age. This can be checked by our forwarding agent. Therefore, please make sure that a person of full age can accept the delivery.
