Winery Haute Cabrière
Winery Haute Cabrière
The farm Haute Cabrière in South Africa was founded in 1694 by the French winemaker Pierre Jourdan in Franschhoek . The region is located about 75 kilometres from Cape Town. In 1982, the winemaker Achim von Arnim, who had studied viticulture in Germany, bought the estate from him. He started growing grapes there because he wanted to make a regional version of French champagne. The winery Haute Cabrière is best known for the wines Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and the Méthode Cap Classique sparkling wine in South Africa. There are three different bottles of the sparkling wine, all of which are very versatile in taste and go well with different dishes. There are about 10,000 vines per hectare grown on the estate. Exactly 300 years after the farm was founded, the famous underground wine cellar was opened in the Franschhoek mountain. Since 2004, regular wine tastings have been held there, as well as in the restaurant at Haute Cabrière, which is one of the best in South Africa.
