The history of the Lutzville Vineyards goes back to the year 1700. The French explorer François Le Vaillant first recorded at that time that he had bought "some strong liquor" from a widow Van Zeijl. The farm of Widow Van Zeijl was located on the present-day site of the winery.
At that time it was said that elephants roamed the valley freely between the farms. Over time, the valley, which stretches along a river, was planted with vineyards.
In 1961, the winery Lutzville was founded and is now a winery of international renown.
