South African white wines
White wine - What exactly is white wine?
White wine is made from white wine grapes. In contrast to Red wines do not have a red skin. For this reason White wine has a yellowish colour. The colour of the White wines varies from grape variety to grape variety and depends on the ageing method. Another difference between Red wine and White wine is often the production process. Many white wines are first pressed and then fermented (so-called must fermentation). For red wines, the reverse order is used (so-called mash fermentation). During this process, the colour of the red grape skins dissolves and colours the transparent grape juice.
