Hope on Hopkins Distillery

Hope on Hopkins is a small-batch distillery in Salt River, Cape Town, founded by former lawyers Lucy Beard and Leigh Lisk.

The South African couple had previously worked as lawyers in London for almost 15 years. After falling in love with Gin in the Mediterranean, they eventually found their way back to South Africa and renovated a run-down warehouse in the heart of the Salt River industrial area, where they established the first distillery.

The two focus on the age-old process of batch distillation using the first stills licensed in Cape Town. The spirits are conceived and then perfected in the stills, which were named after Lucy and Leigh Lisk's grandmothers. The team and the stills work around the clock to ensure that maximum quality is achieved in all batches.

Product Details

ClemenGold is a sun-ripened, very aromatic citrus fruit. It is grown in South Africa in Mpumalanga, Limpopo, the Southern and Western Cape and harvested by hand.

The eponymous Gin in the classic Cape Dry style, spoils Gin lovers with its sweet aromas and refined citrus notes.

Nine Gin botanicals, ClemenGold and orange peel, cinnamon, honey, ground almonds, juniper berries, angelica root, orris root and coriander are used in the distillation of this gin in Cape Town. The sun-dried ClemenGold peels take the flavour lead.

ClemenGold Gin is excellent for a traditional Gin tonic and is the first choice for a variety of classic Gin cocktails. The South African Gin is also excellent served over ice with a slice of orange, a cinnamon stick or a sprig of thyme.

Switzerland - Shipping to German border countries

A cheaper and similarly expensive alternative is to have the wine delivered to German border countries and do the customs clearance yourself. You will then get back the German VAT, have a free volume of 5 litres per person and pay 2 CHF customs duty for each additional litre.
We also deliver free of charge within Germany starting at 120€ purchase value. Furthermore you don't have to coordinate with the parcel service and make sure that someone present as soon as the delivery arrives.

If you don't have the option of having the goods delivered to friends in the border countries, we can deliver the wine to a UPS Access Point to the border near your home. You don't need to register, there are no additional costs and you can collect your wines at the Acess Point within a certain time frame.

There are also various providers of parcel shops where you can have your package picked up for a small fee, e.g. SWISS-PAKET - with branches in Waldshut-Tiengen, Laufenburg, Weil am Rhein, Jestetten & Rheinfelden or EURORETOUR - with branches in Waldshut-Tiengen, Laufenburg, Weil am Rhein & Konstanz.

On request we will send you an export receipt which you can have stamped at customs and send back to us. We will then refund you the German VAT minus a handling fee of 12,00€.

Please note the opening hours of the customs offices! The customs offices usually close on Saturday at 13:00 and are closed on Sunday! For more information about opening hours and customs clearance please visit
For the customs declaration you just have to pull over at the border. You can pay with your EC card and pass the customs queue comfortably.
The officials are friendly and you can also get competent information by phone.

Please note that this form of reimbursement involves costs and effort. Therefore, we always deduct 12,00 € from the VAT amount to be refunded for these expenses.

Taxes, duties and charges in the EU

All taxes, duties and charges for Germany, Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, Croatia, Luxembourg, Malta, Austria, Portugal, Romania, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Czech Republic, Hungary, Cyprus (Greek part only) are included in our prices.

The following countries levy an excise duty on wine (as of May 2020): Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands and Poland. Due to their transport within the EU internal market, postal items from countries of the European Union are regularly not handled by the customs administration. These items are therefore generally delivered directly to you without incurring import duties. This does not mean, however, that the goods are generally duty-free. Under certain conditions, postal items sent within the EU may also be checked. For this purpose, the customs authorities may have postal items opened and check whether they contain goods that are subject to excise duty or whether their import, transit or export violate legal prohibitions and restrictions. The secrecy of letters and mail is restricted in this respect. If they receive goods subject to excise duty, you are generally obliged to report this to the relevant customs office and, if necessary, to pay duties.

Due to legal regulations we only deliver to persons over 18 years of age. This can be checked by our forwarding agent. Therefore, please make sure that a person of full age can accept the delivery.
