Winery Thelema

Situated on the spectacular Helshoogte Pass in Stellenbosch is Thelema Mountain Vineyards, the family winery and home of Thelema and Sutherland Vineyards Wines.
The 42 hectares of vineyards grow Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, as well as Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc . The world-renowned wines of Thelema  surprise with pronounced elegance and a wonderful fruitiness.

Thelema enjoys an optimal climate and has excellent soil types, which has established the winery as one of the leading producers of Cabernet Sauvignon and put Stellenbosch Cabernets firmly on the global wine map.
Due to the excellent conditions, Thelema works with minimal intervention in the vineyard and lets the naturalness of the wines speak for themselves.
We think they did a great job at that!

Winemaker: Gyles Webb

Owner and winemaker Gyles Webb acquired the Thelema estate in 1983, which at the time was still a charming old fruit farm in need of love and care.
The old fruit trees had to give way and vines were planted.

The first wines under the Thelema label were released in 1988 and by the mid-90s Thelema wines were so popular that new vintages were completely sold out within a month of their release.

Gyles Webb is now an absolute legend in the South African wine world.

1.75 per kilo. 1 bottle with 0.75 l weighs approx. 1.5 kg (= 2.63 €).
The delivery takes place without calculation of the German value added tax of 19%. UPS pays duty and taxes on the wine and collects VAT and customs duties on delivery.

Switzerland - Shipping to German border countries

A cheaper and similarly expensive alternative is to have the wine delivered to German border countries and do the customs clearance yourself. You will then get back the German VAT, have a free volume of 5 litres per person and pay 2 CHF customs duty for each additional litre.
We also deliver free of charge within Germany starting at 120€ purchase value. Furthermore you don't have to coordinate with the parcel service and make sure that someone present as soon as the delivery arrives.

If you don't have the option of having the goods delivered to friends in the border countries, we can deliver the wine to a UPS Access Point to the border near your home. You don't need to register, there are no additional costs and you can collect your wines at the Acess Point within a certain time frame.

There are also various providers of parcel shops where you can have your package picked up for a small fee, e.g. SWISS-PAKET - with branches in Waldshut-Tiengen, Laufenburg, Weil am Rhein, Jestetten & Rheinfelden or EURORETOUR - with branches in Waldshut-Tiengen, Laufenburg, Weil am Rhein & Konstanz.

On request we will send you an export receipt which you can have stamped at customs and send back to us. We will then refund you the German VAT minus a handling fee of 12,00€.

Please note the opening hours of the customs offices! The customs offices usually close on Saturday at 13:00 and are closed on Sunday! For more information about opening hours and customs clearance please visit https://www.ezv.admin.ch.
For the customs declaration you just have to pull over at the border. You can pay with your EC card and pass the customs queue comfortably.
The officials are friendly and you can also get competent information by phone.

Please note that this form of reimbursement involves costs and effort. Therefore, we always deduct 12,00 € from the VAT amount to be refunded for these expenses.

Taxes, duties and charges in the EU

All taxes, duties and charges for Germany, Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, Croatia, Luxembourg, Malta, Austria, Portugal, Romania, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Czech Republic, Hungary, Cyprus (Greek part only) are included in our prices.

The following countries levy an excise duty on wine (as of May 2020): Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands and Poland. Due to their transport within the EU internal market, postal items from countries of the European Union are regularly not handled by the customs administration. These items are therefore generally delivered directly to you without incurring import duties. This does not mean, however, that the goods are generally duty-free. Under certain conditions, postal items sent within the EU may also be checked. For this purpose, the customs authorities may have postal items opened and check whether they contain goods that are subject to excise duty or whether their import, transit or export violate legal prohibitions and restrictions. The secrecy of letters and mail is restricted in this respect. If they receive goods subject to excise duty, you are generally obliged to report this to the relevant customs office and, if necessary, to pay duties.

Due to legal regulations we only deliver to persons over 18 years of age. This can be checked by our forwarding agent. Therefore, please make sure that a person of full age can accept the delivery.
